Plenty of "sin taxes" have been proposed this past year: an 18 percent tax on non-diet soda (NY), a 7 percent poured drink tax (Pittsburgh), a 5 cent bottled water tax (Chicago), an 1800% hike in beer taxes from $1.30/keg to $24.80/keg (OR), a $5 chage on entries into strip clubs (TX), etc.
Well, no one puts it better than our friend Remy.

@norcalengineer your taxes are not very high. in italy the tax on a employ is 55% of his wage. still, thats one of the reasons we have free health care for people

You people want America to have the best military to compete in the international dick-waving competition that is world politics, right? Or to fight the "evil" communists, or the terrorists who "hate us for our freedom," or some other neo-con bullshit line.
I don't get how the posters here can be so short sighted, America has low taxes compared to other western industrialized countries, but you people still bitch about it. The problem isn't taxes, its that we waste it on things like Iraq.

Soooo true. It's amazing what we Americans put up with. The founding fathers of this country went to war with their leaders over far less than the crap we take from ours. Time for another Revolutionary War!!!
