Repairs on a 1950 RCA model 6T76 tv chassis. Highlights capacitor replacement and history of the tv. This tv was modified in unfortunate ways, probably to extend the life on a degraded crt. The fuses on the ac power and hv damper tube were removed and cross circuited with wire. The HV rectifier in the HV cage was replaced with a higher power 6AX4. A crt brightener was installed. The extra load eventually shorted the primary of the power transformer and blew open the AC power switch.

  • Possibly could have cleaned the chassis with carburetor cleaner? Just a thought. Thanks for the video!

  • @SaraWinterweb Good suggestion, Sarah. I actually used it on another old tv chassis, and it works well. However, exposure to all those toxic solvents in carb cleaner probably isn't good.

  • @chrisw71 Agreed, for the person and possibly for some of the electrical and tubes...I may stick to Iso Alchohol to clean the KCS83 chassis of my 21ZP4B RCA. I'm a noob to TV electronics and repair, but I'm learning fast.

  • Chassis looks in pretty good shape

  • Looks good...there sure are a lot of caps in there! Look forward to seeing it working again.
