  • what time was it ??

    im bein serious!

  • @TheGam3rftw Actually, if you started at 12:30 instead of 12:15, then it would be 1:15 when you would think it was 1:00 by that logic. The answer is 1 hour 30 minutes (timing could begin as it first chimes, even less than a second), because even though after 45 minutes you could deffinately say the time is between 1:00 and 1:45, you would not know until it chimed three more times to know it were 1:45 (or it it chimed twice on the last one for 2:00, the answer would still be the same).

  • an hour

  • 45 minutes. If he heard the chime once, he could be hearing the 1:00am chime. But he would only be sure of that when he heard three more chimes, because it's the number of times the clock chimes between two exact hours.

... or he could look out of the window.

  • You'd have to wait until you hear multipal chimes in a row without stopping.

  • 15 minutes

  • @LoveGeronimo Ah, I get you. So, therefore the longest he could possibly wait is an hour and a half. This is because the first possible chime he could hear is at 12:15. Then, he would hear chimes until a chime at quarter to two, which would be the seventh chime. He would then know for certain that the time is quarter to 2 as it is impossible to have more than 7 single chimes in a row :)

  • @cruncherdan Well, you'd have to realize that one of the times it chimed signalled one o'clock. However, you will not know which one of these times is 13.00. So only when you hear the seventh single chime or the two o'clock chime will you be certain of the exact time.

  • 1 Hour, cause it rang once so it can be one o'clock or a quarter hour, so you have to wait up too an entire hour until it rings again to be certain of the time.
