A great slide classic. Originally recorded and composed by Sleepy John Estes in the 30ties but it's Mississippi Fred McDowell's version that is the most widely known.
My version is more influenced by the one JoAnn Kelly recorded for the Blues Goose label in the 70ties.
I'm playing an old Stella in open A-tuning.

Check out my new cd at Youtune Records

I made a lesson dvd that includes this song (tab + detailed tuition)

  • Boy open A is high , maybe open g with a capo? Are your lessons in this series all in open A? Vestapol and Spanish or just Spanish? I have 14 frets to work with on the two guitars I use for slide but they are resonators set with .18 -.56 so I don't want to tune up.

  • @studio249

wow, 18-56 is quite heavy and I don't advise you to tune up to open A, just use a capo on the second fret and you're ok, because of the heavy strings you use you can get good slide results with the capo on (I do it also sometimes on my reso)

The Stella guitar I'm using will not support heavy strings so I use Xlights and tune up; also, open A suits my voice better.

the three songs I'm teaching are all in open A, which is the same as Spanish or open G, but with the capo on second fret

  • Hi, I have been watching your channel for some time,Your obviously accomplished in this kind of music and i would value greatly your comments advice ect on my atempts at this style as i would love to progress a little. Many thanks paul

  • @MrSouthpaw55

    thanks for the kind words

the best advice I can give you is ....play play play - the more you play the better you'll get!

  • Dig the maple neck

  • It's m.o.t (mother of toiletseat...)....which means it's plastic with the look of mother of pearl. They used the material a lot for toilet seats in the 20ies hence the name.
