During this blessed month dedicated to the Virgin Mary, preparations are underway to welcome the successor of St. Peter in Jordan: the land of blessing, of prophets and apostles, and of the Al Hussein. Everyone is impatiently waiting for Pope Benedict XVI. The stopping point following Mount Nebo will be Madaba City on Saturday, May 9th.This city is located south of Amman. It is known for its large, rare Byzantine-era mosaic map depicting the Holy Land in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George.'Madaba' is a Syriac term. It means 'the good place' or 'the calm water', referring to its fertile soil. Its beautiful streets, ancient homes reflecting the distinctive architecture, thin church bells, mosques' minarets, green mountains and fields are stunning.Madaba has a distinctive position in Jordan, thanks to its many archaeological, touristic, religious, economic, medical, entertainment and cultural sites. Wonderful mosaics can be found in homes and churches in the area.Pope Benedict XVI will pass by this city where he will bless the cornerstone of Madaba University of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem.
