Undecided - Dandridge Sisters with Orchestra, Vivian, Dorothy & Etta Jones. Recorded July 1939. Composed by Charlie Shavers, words Sid Robbins. The girls were in the UK from June to September 1939 & I believe this was recorded in the UK, possibly with The Jack Harris Band who were headliners at The London Palladium where the girls were on the same show. Leonard Feather, the jazz critic saw the show, met them and got infatuated & began an affair with Vivian, maybe he had a role in getting the recording done. Don Bogle says Vivian had the lowest voice so perhaps she's singing the solo part? This recording and tune aren't usually listed as done by The Dandridge Sisters. Anyone got any more info on this please? Photo credits where shown. There's a great clip of them singing & dancing with Louis Armstrong, Maxine Sullivan and more on youtube "A Jazztime Nursery Rhyme" Upload for fair use and educational purposes only.

  • Very interesting comment. I guess The Sisters & their "guardian" Mama wanted the recording to appeal to their Brit' audences but start of WW2 spoilt all that. The UK publishing company put The Ames Brothers above The Dandridge Sisters as having recorded the song in their ads in UK Melody Maker in Aug 1939

  • One of them favors Ashanti

  • I've decided to come back to this usual interpretation of "Undecided" by the Dandridge Sisters. It works so well because the sisters' straightforward approach to both melody and lyric. And it's curious that every word is understandable. Also, the harmony is just that. Harmony. With every musical part moving in tandem. I could listen to "Undecided" over and over again, so impressed am I with the rendition.

  • i love this video dorothy and dandridge sister her wonderful

  • wooowww the 3rd was etta jones...man i didnt kno that...between the 3 was a ridiculous amount of talent...

  • So sorry to read that Dandridge was not quite at her best in her relationship with Etta Jones, who was not her real-life sister. Still I'd like to hear more of this little known singing trio.
