I grew up in a era where the garbage man came by once a week and picked up trash in a pick up truck. We chased the Ice Cream Man who drove a three wheeled ice cream vehicle with dry ice in the back to keep the treats frozen. My Grandfather played checkers on the porch of the general store in front of a Coca Cola Box that had an honor box. I could buy a bag of candy at a candy store for a nickel and the word of breaking a handshake promise got around town quickly. People whistled, Girls played Jacks, You didn't get out of the car at the Gas Station, Strangers waved and fences were used for keeping the dogs in....not people out. Credit meant,....you pay it off, then you take it home. Tootsie Rolls, Cracker Jacks, Wax Pop Bottles and Lips, licorice strings, and a large coke was 10 ounces and 10 cents. Milk was delivered, Doctors came to the house and people that went to college came out smart. This song is about your town.....and my town.....your country and my country...Your values and my values, I believe our founding values of working hard and being a good neighbor are still alive and well....I believe that with all my heart...!!!
