This is such a crock.

The oil leases go to the six big oil companies, three of which are foreign owned (BP, Shell, Total)

Even if they get the new leases, there's no requirement to drill.

These companies are currently sitting on millions of acres of unused drilling leases, because a tight oil supply drives up prices, making them huge profits.

The oil does not go to some 'USA only' oil supply, it is sold by big oil on the global market to the highest bidder.

This is just a massive land grab.

by the way my old high school (i'm in college now before ppl start bashing my age, which i still somewhat expect given the quality of comments i'm seeing) had 7,000 students

and unless you're suggesting that alaska actually is part of mainland america and similar not only in geography but in demographics as well in a state that deals w/ issues that most of mainland america hasn't even considered then i believe my statement remains correct.
