@p1zd3c Well in Sully's case this was a bit more difficult. The 27-years old captain of Tupolev 124 and his passangers + crew were not surrounded by tall skyscrapers, which was the case of US Airways Flight 1549.

This actually *did* happen a few times in the Soviet Union, the first occurance being a passenger flight (A Tupolev Tu-124) that landed on the Neva River at St Petersburg (then called Leningrad) in 1963. All 45 passengers and 7 crew on board survived.
Search wikipedia for "Tupolev 124 ditching in Neva River". You can also see some photos on the englishrussia web site.
Sully and his crew are true heroes, but they are not the first to achieve this amazing feat.

They hoped to be rescued by fairies? I would have thought the emergency services would be a better bet!
@Deltapilot96 So true - but they are all heroes to me. It takes courage and skill to focus on getting those souls safely home.
May the skies always treat you well, and may you always have a safe landing. :)

I wouldn't believe this could be possible if it didn't happen. I'm addicted to this story. The pilot,co-pilot, and crew did a perfect and amazing job!
