Bridelessgirl: the tradition of the riderless horse goes back to cavalry days. The horse of a fallen soldier would be ponied or led by hand behind a casket, or in parade. It is a symbol of loss, the saddle is empty. Many will put the boots in the stirrups backwords to symbolize the fallen rider, seated backwords looking over his troops one last time. Often used for POW/ MIA memorials. It us that we will never again ride with the fallen.

@bridlelessgirl It's to symbolize the person who's past taking their last ride in this life. We did this at my dad's funeral too.

i just started crying we did the riderless horse for my grandpas funeral and we has his pulling pony's pull a wagon he had made himself with his casket in back to the cemitary

Beauty Video, it make me remember my grandpa's funeral, with his Old big sorrel riderless, when I was back at home I unsaddle the sorrel and never was roden.
