This is the 150 plus flute choir, Illuminations Flute Choir playing Jay Unger's Ashokan Farewell at the opening concert at the National Flute Association's convention in Anaheim, California. This was too good to keep to myself. This is my first time ever to put anything up on You-Tube. It was sheer flute heaven to be there, but I've been unsure of posting the few recordings I got the first day. I see a few others. I tried to show the variety of flutes. It is amazing considering that the flute choir only met first the Wed. before and that morning. The arranger of this was Ricky Lombardo. The conductor is Kathy Farmer, and Wendy Webb Kumer is the Conductor. There's several other versions of this same arrangement on You-tube.

  • I will slowly post other performances if I find them complete, decent, or interesting for looking at the flutes and other instruments. A trip back east and business have slowed me down. I also want to have complete information to credit performers and all music correctly.

  • This is my only video of this. I was a bit hesitant to post it because of concerns about permissions, etc., but like you, if I was in that orchestra I would have wanted to hear a video of it. I saw others of this same piece. I am trying to make detailed notes and credits of anything posted. I had never done movies before and was learning how on the videos I did the first day. I have several first day videos of the Illuminations Flute Orchestra, Low Flutes perfomances, and 1st evening.

  • Do you have any other recordings of this performance? I was in the flute choir and managed to record this piece as well as The Secret Language of Snow and most of Tournament Gallop. It's also nice to hear the piece from an "audience" perspective instead of from the side I was sitting on. :)
