This beautifully crafted film is an in-depth look at the witch-hunts that swept through Europe just a few hundred years ago. False accusations and trials led to massive torture and burnings at the stake, and ultimately to the destruction of an organic way of life. The film advances the theory that widespread violence against women and the neglect of our environment today can be traced back to those times. Part two of a series of three films on women and spirituality, which includes Goddess Remembered and Full Circle.

  • They did not have to die. We are still learning those lessons today. In our society, we may not burn "offenders" at the stake, but the self-appointed keepers of the "norm" sure do like hurting and humiliating anyone who deviates from their narrow standards.

  • Poor Joan, She should be held with high respects from all women. She did a brave thing and thank heavens she had the courage to fight along side of men.

  • "If a woman passes through to reality, she meets her anger, and that means she is ready to act." (Mary Daly, radical feminist American philosopher and writer, 1928-2010)

Thanks again for this great Canadian documentary directed by Donna Read and written by Erna Buffie. (They should be mentioned in the info description in the video parts.)

  • men made lousy doctors. don't forget it was a woman in England who taught the medical world about sanitary health care & about germs. the church brought the dark ages on Europe and the world.

  • 8:56 what kind of creep finds it pleasurable to watch someone get tortured?!? ugh.... see, this is why i converted. they think WE are the evil ones??? please. anyone who finds watching ppl be tortured or killed is one sick bastard.

  • I am not a great fan of the RC but recent history said that it was the town councils that did the trials not church...reason, old women, women alone and real estate. I found this some interesting bits of history. also many note that medicine and medical schools as ineffective as they were started so the male status quo was saying no to midwives even if they had better patient rates. signed, archives, journalism and history by trade.

  • Im curious if he meant the christian god, or that it doesnt matter what form god/goddess take.. That there is no right or wrong path to the divine?

  • iindeed. The REAL christians i think would never commit such acts

  • actually Deepanization has a point while you are wrong. Witches actually believe in only one true force , one god. It is the different aspects of that "being" or power that they give various names to.

  • Three Cheers for Midwives who eased the pain of labor and knew the secrets of Birth Control though.

A thousand curses on the misogynistic monsters who killed them for trying to help and heal.

  • This is a great documentary. Wow. Thank you for posting.
