The video is showing a homemade VHF 1 modulator. This modulator is comparable to the modulators that are usually built in in vcrs or (rather analouge than digital) sattelite receivers. The picture quallity is not as good as the one from a "professionall" modulator - but therefore the circuit design is pretty simple. Only 4 transistors are needed to generate the complete HF Signal including the 5,5Mhz audio oscillator. 3 transistors are neccesarry to generate the video rf carrier signal, generate the 5,5Mhz audio carrier signal, modulate the video rf carrier signal with the "picture signal" and mix the 5,5Mhz signal with the rf carrier from the video signal. The 4th transistor is switched as active "pre emphasis". The pre emphasis increases the sound quallity from the modulator.

  • Great project! You did very neat wiring and made it very compact. I know you have to for frequencies this high.
