Here's a little ditty on my "Red Baron" banjolele.
I first learned "Macon Rag" on the guitar from a fine Norman Blake cd called "Slow Train Through Georgia"
It's a fun tune which I adapted for the banjolele.
Bought that little loudmouth rascal on evilbay a while ago; it's made in the 20ies and has some features of the Regal brand.

This song is part of an ebook/tablature called "Fingerpicking Blues Ukulele" Volume 1
You can get it at my website

  • Wow.

    You're great!

Also, is that uke in standard tuning?

  • Thanks, yes, standard tuning gCEA; song is in C

  • Another question..what do you use to record such a nice, sweet sound.?.thanks!!

  • I use a harddisk camcorder JVC Everio505.

I record directly with the camcorder's microphone; fast and easy and ideal for a lowtech guy like me.

  • That sounds awesome , nice job! I want one of those!! Can you tell me a little bit about yours and maybe what to look for?

  • Bought mine for $140 on ebay, the seller is called banzaigoat. He restores old ukes and is reliable to buy from. You'll know you buy something that is playable.

  • Very cool

  • amazing and wonderful. It's like a time machine!

  • Ah! The banjo and the uke (my two favorite stringed instruments) together as one!

Thanks for the inspiration - Mr. Formby would be proud.

  • daddystovepipe is the coolest motherfucker alive

  • It'll never replace the guitar, but I can't deny the charm of that weird little instrument. ; )

  • Sounds great, man. I love the feel. Great to hear that oddball instrument really sing.

It's interesting to hear the way this instrument sort of has two voices. Sometimes it's in uke mode, sometimes it has that punchy banjo tone. I have a mandolin-banjo that does a similar schizo thing.

  • Awesome! Glad that uke went to good hands!

  • uke is good

  • yea great stuff!
