This was the first year the NCAA College World Series Championship became a best-of-3 series. Rice won the first game 4-3 in 10 innnings, but Stanford would tie the series at 1 a piece with an 8-3 victory in game 2. The third and final game would be decided in the sixth inning as Rice knocked in seven runs and took a 11-0 lead. The game would end 14-2 as Rice captured it's first CWS title.
