The inspiration is not solely Tibetan Buddhist. It's musically "based" off Hildegard von Bingen's "Ave Maria, O Auctix Vite." Introduced to this fragmentation and dramatization of the HvB melody is the idea of post-death Buddhist enlightenment.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra starts and maintains a faster tempo throughout in their recording with Robert Spano conducting. I much prefer that version to this one.

@821Anon i think this is very good timing. think of this piece's theme. Tibetan buddism music itself is very slow.

This is the best recording of this piece on YouTube, yet there is a hiccup in the recording right at the exact climax moment of the song, around time stamp 12:50.
