Local Los Angeles news coverage about Papa the alligator was the pet of Sam and Nevolia Collins of Carson, California. Papa had lived with the Collins family since he was a baby alligator in 1960s. He was taken away from (but eventually returned to) his owners because they didn't have a permit even though Papa had lived in the City of Carson prior to it's incorporation.

I would never give up my alligator. Bans and licensing like this are simply wrong. How many people register their children?

Papa died a few years ago. My aunt had him stuffed and he is now mounted in her house. It was cool having him in the family. People never believed when I told them about him. We miss Papa. He would have been 41 years old.
