The second half begins with a tribute to the SWC.
Gardere is chased and fumbles but the Ag defenders are ruled out of bounds on the recovery with replays inconclusive (although replay not officially used then) and the defenders vehemently argue. UT punts and Ags then fumble to Dronett. UT tries an end around to Cash but they end up missing the FG.
Texas gets the ball back and drives down the field with the help of a clutch 3rd down catch by Cash. A leap on 4th and 1 gets a first down, like the 3 man backfield behind Gardere. Walker gets a nice run set up by picture perfect blocking by Scott Gooch on Coryatt and downfield blocks by Brown and Cash. Gooch had one of the best games I have ever seen for a Horn lineman. Samuels takes it in for the TD. 21-14 with the extra point.
A&M with the ball drives downfield with some Lewis runs and an end around which is shot to pieces by Dronett. A&M manages to get a 32 yard Lewis TD on 4th down tying it at 21. Robert Wilson with a monster block on the scoring play. Notice how Lewis avoids the milkmen on the sideline.
Texas answers with a drive featuring 2 great grabs by Keith Cash and a solid Wilson run. Coryatt pops Wilson in the red zone but UT scores on a Gardere burst to the sideline where he does a VY-on-Lehman move on an Ag LB freezing him to the turf. 28-21 UT.
We take a break to learn about the history of the Hook'em sign originated by Henry Pitts and taken up by friend Haley Clarke (?) -- UT Cheerleader - in 1955. The originator was in the stands that day. Must be nice to know that everyone sitting next to me is doing MY SIGN and no one knows its me!
Bucky leads Ag nation down the field with his own impressive long TD run where he is instantly gang hugged by the milkmen. Ag trails 28-27 and with 3:46 left in the game RC decides to go for 2. I'll never understand this, especially with the UT FG troubles this day, but they are Ags for a reason. Lewis is stopped on the option pitch by Mark Berry, although an assist can be given to CBS for telegraphing the play to a national audience.
Texas runs out the clock with an Adrian Walker long run (notice yet another Gooch block on Coryatt!!) and some short runs inside the red zone down to the 1. Ags had 1 TO but mysteriously never took it. A great win for UT, just 1 over A&M in 11 games. Imagine the pain of 11 consecutive losses. Peter Gardere MVP and we know he is the anti-OU man but should get credit for this win and others in his career.
A&M went on to destroy BYU in the Holiday by about 50 points and UT lost by 43 to Miami in the Cotton. BYU had beaten Miami that year; strange sport this college football.
28-27 FINAL
@budwyzer77, I remember that he ran for 211 yards . Now A&M is getting back into their groove because they have a defense. Still hasn't won a big bowl game since the 1989 Cotton Bowl, but they are getting better.

You forgot the 1995 season.
You know, the one where freshman Ricky Williams ran all over y'all at Kyle Field and UT won the SWC for the last time.

Ok so you had a half decade of Dominance over Texas while Texas has had a whole century of dominance over you. Keep Trying

I like how he said the southwest conference will live for much longer. But it deteriorates in the next few years.

Before that win in 1990 Texas had lost 6 straight to A&M dating back to 1990. In fact other than the 1990 season Texas hadn't done much as of winning the SWC since 1983. Other than the inaugural Big 12 season in 1996, Texas was just plain mediocre while A&M dominated Texas. It wasn't until Mack Brown came in 1998 did everything turn around for Texas and by the 1998 season after the Big 12 win by A&M everything pretty much started to go down hill for A&M while things went up for Texas.
