  • why do you need to cycle fast? it's not as if you're using it like a close encounter machine gun. if anything, a slower bolt forces you to be more accurate and think more about when and where you're going to hit the target

  • Not really, less cycle time means more aiming time.

  • in your opinion, which rifle can fire faster? i personally believe that the mosin can cycle faster than most types of mauser.

  • It's a tough call. The average Mauser is faster than the average Mosin. However, if someone is experienced with Mosin actions, and they have a good one. I think a Mosin can be cycled slightly faster.

Just check out my 42 VKT M39 video and you'll see how fast a Mosin can cycle, at least as fast as I can cycle one.

  • the mosin nagant bolt is hard to open compared to a mauser because the mauser firing pin cocks back when chambering another round so you just gotta push harder. the mosin bolt cocks the firing pin back when opening the bolt so its pretty hard

  • Actually the M98 action is cock on open, just like the Mosin. The M1893, and maybe the M1896 (I don't have a '96 action yet) cock on close.

I think a lot of people find the Mosin action slower because they started on curves bolt rifles. That and the use of lacquer coated ammo, and cosmoline still in the chamber.

I started on straight bolts. My first rifle was an M44. With a clean Mosin bolt, I'm slightly faster with it than a Mauser. I can cycle my Finnish M39 much faster than a Mauser.

  • @ytykg Ah, the finns made beautiful Mosins I hear. Very high quality. I have an M44, M91/30 sniper with bent bolt, and a normal M91/30. If they've been cleaned of cosmoline and oiled a little, they can be pretty fast bolts! Not nearly as easy as the cock-on-close Lee Enfields, but that's not calling the Mosin or Kar98k slow. I think you might be right in saying the Mosin can be operated slightly faster than the kar with the right ammo and a clean reciever/bolt. Enfield is my favorite however :P

  • owww!!!.... wtf? i got shell to the head before and was like what DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY!

  • lmfao a nice bullet shell to the head

  • The Lee Enfield cocks on close, K98 is cock on open.

The force of gravity favors the former over the latter.

  • U can cycle the mauser bolt pretty fast to, its just to get use to the bolt. Ive fired mine for 5 years. And when I cycle it, it looks like no other rifle can beat it in cycling.

But anyway, when its about 0.1 second of more cycling time it doesnt matter.

Yes it has been sticky, if u dont maintain it enough ofcourse it gets like that, id really like a clean bolted mosin my self ;)

  • Irony indeed. I have a 1943 Izhevsk m91/30 and love it. Bet the Nazis didn't like seeing those rifles marching into Berlin! Only 5 & 1/2 feet long with the Bayonet..... only.

  • wow the irony!!!

  • Do you have a Chinese Nationalist Mauser? like a Chiang Kai-sheck rifle?
