How grateful I am to you for posting this. It was so beautiful that I began to cry. I know the music so well but the playing and visual was overwhelming. Watching these extraordinarily talented young musicians overwhelmed my spirit. I wonder why there is hatred and war and prejudice in the world when there is such beautiful music. These people touched my soul tonight. Thank you, Maestro Abbado and each of these wonderful musical masters.

it is tempting to think like this. But as one of the players in the group I can assure you that nobody would have been able to play the way they did if Abbado had not been there. Abbados particular genius is that he, with small movements, creates a feeling of absolute safety, which enables each musician to give the most of himself in a way which is not possible without this underlying security.

Bach hated slackers. If you want to play Bach you either have to be a virtuoso or be on meth, cocaine and caffeine. Oh, and either way you have to be capable of playing beautiful music.
