When a first grade teacher sees an episode of Rescue 911 where a boy does the heimlich maneuver on his choking grandmother, she has a nurse come in to teach her students first-aid. One of her students chokes two months later. Also included in this clip is a fan letter from a mother who saw an episode of Rescue 911 where a girl with no bike helment was hit by car and decided buy a helmet for her son the day before he had a bike accident. This segment was taken from the Rescue 911 special "200 Lives Saved" (Episode 507) which aired November 23, 1993 on CBS.

  • What is the name of the song they play as the pictures and names are shown?

  • I don't think it had a name; it was a score by Stu Goldberg, the show's composer for seasons 4-7.

  • they look like 3rd graders, not 1st graders

  • Maybe it's just me, but I think kids look younger these days than they did at the same age back then.

  • candy is quite dangerous for kids. When I was younger I choked on a huge peppermint candy ball at a doctors office...

  • My father, Grandpa Mike, was riding in Arlington, Texas on his motor scooter in April 4 years ago and he got hit by a car too. His shoulder hit the pavement and he was in shock. His right arm was hurt really bad. The young woman was in shock from what happened she didn't return to work for 5 days. He was 80 at the time and it took a long time for him to recover. He passed away on February 15 of this year from diabetes complications and he was sick for a long time.
