@indyman77 Government should NOT be in the business of lending AT ALL. Cut off the Bailouts, subsidies, grants and other redistributive policies and anti-competitive regs and small viable business will have no problem finding money to borrow in the market.
What we need are competitive markets and limited government

@1isaM111er Why is it bad to lend to the small businesses with tarp money but okay to lend to big banks? THE EXACT SAME MONEY? By your own parties dogma small businesses create jobs. Plus why PAY big Corps TAX PAYER money to send the TAX PAYERS jobs directly CHINA? Every Republican in Congress keeps voting to keep this practice that they started in 2003 going. Why pay every company at least $3 million to send jobs to CHINA?

@1isaM111er I wouldn't start on police and fire..I'd start on a State level in making benefits INCOME QUALIFIED ONLY hence privatize schools, housing, healthcare...eliminate grants, subsidies, private/public partnerships etc..and fund only through the individual.
The rest of us then keep much more of our money and can decide and pay for our childrens education, our healthcare etc that suits our needs and price point and helps us build our American dream.

@Bezz80 Frank, Dodd and the progressives (in both Parties) voted in the Community Reinvestment Act and forced community mortgage loan quotas and allowed no doc loans which created the bubble and lots and lots of fraud.
The Fed lower artificially interest rates and a fueled the bubble so the loses were quite significant when it popped. However, we should have let the investors and banks pay the price.
If we had, we'd have recovered by now.

@Bezz80 Everyone is responsible for voting in benefits that are not sustainable and the politicians that can't stop spending.
You'll note if you read the US Constitution and the State Constitutions that their are enumerated powers. However I notice that some cities have privatiazed their police force. I think this makes sense if the wages, pension and health benefits of police, fire, etc..have grown beyond the cities capacity to pay.
It's the only reasonable and responsible thing to do.

Stop war and defense spending? The biggest portion of our budget? Kick the old off social security, something they paid for and was squandered by the republicans over the last 30 years? Privitize? Really privite police forces? Schools? They always cost more and have less acountability than if you vote for people. What regulations are you tring to get rid of? Easy to say, hard to get a grip on the consequences. We deregulated the financial industry and you see where that lead us, over the cliff.

@indyman77 The reason business is leaving is because we have oppressive taxes and regulation. Americans have very little savings so "lending" to small business to expand in a collapsing economy will be ruinous.
Government needs to stop spending, privatize, reset regs and oversite of competitive markets, stop creating and Bailing our Failure and fund ONLY the safety net with fully portable benefits.
Please get an education. Business isn't leaveing from anything you mentioned. They are leaveing because they get workers in China for $1 and hour or less. Nice to knnow you want Americans living on $1 or less. And regulations, like toxic paints on toys for kids or poisons unchecked in our food, air and water? Really? The gov should stop spending on? Education, we need dummer kids? Roads? Police and Fire? The states would just up your local taxes, they probably already are, if you follow locally.

@Bezz80 You should read the Wall Street Journal..Considering the cost and failure of government programs, the huge over payment for Government workers, the misdirection of capital and the political money laundering that sustains the corruption and REWARDS bad behavior and punishes productive behavior...ABSOLUTELY privatize.
We can reset govt as "honest brokers" in regulation and oversite of competitive markets. There is still a role for government (read Constitution on Fed and State levels)
