Luckily there was not much damage and I wasnt harmed trying to video this event, so dont over-expect. The irregular tidal swings were nothing short of amazing to me, something you never see. As a surfer I couldnt help but recognize this as a dangerous, unpredictable event, much like surfing. A Tsunami Advisory and Warning was issued here in California on March 11, 2011. Being a surfer and Ocean enthusiast, I had to watch what was going to happen. NOAA and the tsunami warning center said that the first waves would hit around 8:15am. I headed down to the beach and then posted up at the only Tsunami -proof Building on the Island, just in case things got out of hand. No one could predict what was going to happen, and the threat of disaster was on everyones mind, including myself. In the end there was definitely not as much damage where I was as other places, but I figured someone might like to see what happened in other places like mine as well. 20 miles to the Northwest from where I was, Santa Cruz Harbor was devastated by these same surges, resulting in more than $26 Million USD damages. I think our harbor was spared partially due to the harbor entrance facing more to the North than due West, and larger inland sloughs and bodies of water... that may have cushioned the effects. But who knows, I'm a surfer, not a scientist.
My hearfelt sorrow and condolences go out to the people of Japan, and all of the victims of the Japaneese earthquake and Tidal Waves.
no victims. , it was just a spectacle thank god.
