  • Could you please clear up any misconception of what kind of fertilizer to use. There are a lot of mixed messages out there, but judging by the great shape the tree is in your video, I'll go with your suggestion, so that would be?.......

  • @andrewmorrison85 i would go with a balanced fertilizer, like a 20-20-20, but it doesn't need a lot of it. The hibiscus here have been grown with fertilizer mixes that aren't available on the retail market; commercial growers have access to a much larger selection.

  • A great video. My neighbor gave me a hibiscus, I live in a northern cold climate. I brought in indoors but not sure how to care for it until the spring. The blossoms are almost gone and the plant is going into dormancy. Do I still need to water and mist it through out the winter and fertilizer. Thanks so much. I love this plant and want to care for it properly.

  • really nice

  • Erm, most information i read about hibiscus care specifically say NOT to give a fertiliser with a high middle number. Hibiscus need a LOW middle number.

As Andrewmorrison, GoddessDelilah and others wrote, a 3-1-5 ratio with trace minerals work best.

  • Hi phosphorus fertilizers are harmful to the hibiscus plants, at least that is what I have read and learned from hibiscus experts. Your recommendation of a high P fertilizer may not be the best recommendation. Please check and inform.

    Thank you.

  • @Whiskeyis100 I was able to find a hibiscus specific fertilizer formulated by a Nursery, available for sale online at hiddenvalleyhibiscus(dot)com. Supposedly even a balanced fertilizer will eventually degrade the quality of the plant. Something with moderate nitrogen, low phosphorus & high potassium is best! This fertilizer also has manganese, iron & other elements which a hibiscus needs to show all of it's splendor!

  • hi

I planted almost 25 of them deferent colors on my driveway last march/2010 got almost 2 feet but some of them by now the leafs kinda got like coffee blk color then just go down to stem just dies down like few stems in middle of the bush or onebush just all died but some of them I mean most of them all nice and still green, they all in same spot line just don’t get much sun in late fall & winter. Was wondering might got disease, would U help me what’s wrong with them please?

    Thanks.

  • @Whiskeyis100 That's unfortunate that it isn't available. Is it because there is too small a market to cater to that they aren't sold to the public? I mean, why shouldn't we be able to enjoy our plants the same way we purchase them at the nursery!

  • All good advice except that tropical hibiscus will not bloom if fertilized with blossom boosting fomulas (high phosphorous which is the middle number).

They actually grow and bloom best with a 3-1-5 ratio fertilizer.
