This is actually a Trico pumping unit. Basically a knockoff of the Lufkin. Lufkin started making pumping units in the early 1900's. They have a good video on their website on the history of them.

  • Yes, that resembles a 1950's or 1960's Lufkin conventional. Many of the pumping units I remember from Long Beach, CA., in the 1960's, looked exactly like this unit. Derek, can you tell us when Lufkin started manufacturing the conventional line? Thanks for the vid!

Many of the parts are interchangeable as far as I know. You almost can't tell the difference between the two from a distance. You can see one detail and that's the crank at the slow speed shaft.

  • that looks so much like a lufkin. do you think that trico parts would work on a lufkin and vice-versa?
