During his lecture "What Are the Genes Required to Make a Seed? Importance for Food, Fuel, and Engineering New Crops" Robert B. Goldberg, distinguished professor of molecular, cell and developmental biology at UCLA and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, talks about how the genetic engineering of seeds can solve world hunger.
The lecture, which is part of the UCLA Science Faculty Research Colloquium Series, is available in its entirety on YouTube.

What about the 250,00 GMO cotton farmers in India who have committed suicide due to crop failures and livestock dying from eating the plants?
Or what about the suspected pathogen that has evolved from the glysophate in Round-up causing sterility and spontaneous abortion in livestock in the US?
If you are so sure it's safe, why have they lobbied to not label GMOs in the grocery store? Are they trying to avoid liability with human miscarriages and sterility too? If it's so so label this shit!

Lets be realistic here, you are in Zimbabwe starving and Mugabe says the only money he will accept is diamonds.
Will you "A" mine for the diamonds, "B" steal diamonds, or "C" become an enforcer for another dictatorship?
Most choose option "C" which works great for awhile until the new guy turns out to be just as big a prick as the old one, the reason for this is because the politicians in Africa usually take their position by force or intimidation.
Idi Amin is a good example of this.

2.
So if people were educated about the way food is controlled hopefully they could become an advocate for their cause and spread the word (possibly making a job out of this), the more people that know the more chance we have of changing unfair policies, and creating a healthier and generous food trade and supply.

To Coyotll,
I do think education is a way out of world hunger-but I also believe that one of the main reasons there is world hunger is because of the way food is controlled. (my basic thoughts are coming from Dr. Vandana Shiva-{i don't believe everything she says, but I agree with her views on the economic standpoint}-check out some of her videos & website.)

But YOU'RE making the misinformed assessments.

I will be very rude to the naive and the ignorant, especially if they make misinformed assessments thank you very much.

It is interesting how he keeps talking about how much genetic engineering is helping poor farmers. Well of course it would, more money is great for them, it would be great for anyone.
But he does not mention enough, if any, scientific to support his claim.

And there is no reason to be rude, you don't have to study anthropology to learn about what is going on in Africa this day and age.

Thats not true about Africa. It was foolish of you to say that. Not only are there places in Africa that are well-off and productive with businesses and houses and downtowns just like the USA, but in other 2nd and 3rd world counties people are taking their kids to schools and are being educated, even at their children's risk because they know its very important in becoming successful. Not all of Africa is as you said it is.

Tell that to the world's 923 million (Food and Agriculture Organization Economic and Social Development Department. The State of Food Insecurity in the World, 2008 : High food prices and food security - threats and opportunities. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2008, p. 48.) hungry people who have depended on that "FINE JOB".
