I don't know about this one being the greatest win in Navy Football history. But it was definitely one of the most satisfying of all time as far as I'm concerned. I figured that would be it for my lifetime. Never imagined we would come away with 2 out of the next 3.

@thestuvylives they might have been 3-9 but btw you sound you sound mad bro and look how successful notre dame is in fball. big win for navys fball team

It was my sophomore year. Charlie Weis worst year as a coach and about to be fired. I was 10th row right side by the tunnel where the players come out. It was a historical game. Most extreme-left students leaving the game had hatred to Navy including so much an anti-war view to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. 2006, it was peek for our troops fighting. Today,, I say, God Bless our troops!!!

the last time I checked, it is by far harder to get into Navy than Notre Dame

TYPICAL DOMER FOOTBALL TEAM!

I love it. Eff Notre Dame and all they stand for. Wreckless death of a videographer, sexual assaults swept under the rug. Go Miami, whip that ass in the Sun Bowl.

@thestuvylives fucking retard. he never said it was the greatest team ever....ur probably just some terrorist who doesnt noe shit about football...good try though...

Greatest victory in navy's history? that's a pretty sad history then. did you realize that notre dame was 3-9 that year? 3-9!! navy was good and notre dame was just awful, it was their worst team in their history! in order for it to be a greatest win ever it has to at least be against a 500 team or better, right? Also, you made it seem like the ND 43 game winning streak was all lucky breaks and calls. you do realize that ND was awesome for a lot of those years. in 07 navy was good, nd was not.

@thestuvylives I stand by the statement. Notre Dame's record that year was immaterial - ND's front line outweighed Navy's significantly, they had stronger and faster athletes, and arguably had significantly more talent than Navy, even with a 3-9 record. Navy hung in there for three overtimes rather than give up under the assumption that "no matter what we do, Notre Dame always wins." So yes, for mental toughness and ending the 43 year drought: greatest victory in Navy football history.

Also, "all lucky breaks and calls?" The statement, "In 43 years, only 7 games were decided by 8 points or less" means with the exception of those games, Notre Dame blew Navy out or left no doubt who would win 99% of the time.

Amazing video, amazing game. I don't follow Navy football regularly; I am an Ensign though having received my commission via NROTC, and this game meant every bit as much to me as it did to the crazed Academy grads in my wardroom. Hook em Horns and Go Navy! You guys earned it.

Horns - THANKS! We're all one Navy after graduation. Can't tell you how many times my heart was broken leading up to this game when it looked like we were going to actually win... All the best.

John Carney (ND 1987) is a friend of mine and our families went to every Navy-Notre Dame game from 84-87 while I was at Navy (1988). He was their place kicker and an 18 year NFL kicker. It sucked when my best friend kicked a 40 yard field goal with 14 seconds left to beat us 18-17 when I was a plebe in 1984. We were on the phone together from the middle of the 4th qtr 'til our victory during the 2007 game, and he was genuinely happy for us. BTW, we beat #2 South Carolina in 1984.

Todd - Roger that - I remember both games very well. Was a youngster during the 18-17 game - I remember watching it in the wardroom - couldn't believe losing the way we did. You figured your best friend would have cut you a break! Similarly, my phone rang off the hook with classmates wanting to savor the victory after the 2007 game concluded. Go Navy! Send John the video!
