Fiddler Randall Franks, "Officer Randy Goode" from TV's "In the Heat of the Night," joins Atlanta bluegrass banjo stylist Jim "Duck" Adkins of Cedar Hill to enlighten some students at Westside Elementary School in Cedartown, Ga. about the music of Appalachia. Adkins (www.duck-wave.com) began performing with Cedar Hill in 1976 and created one of the most entertaining bands in the genre with his fellow band members. He also appears with Atlanta BlueGrace, a Christian Bluegrass Band which started at his home church Grace Community Church of Marietta.
This performance occurred in 1986 and when both Franks and Adkins were serving as vice president and president, respectively, of the SouthEastern Bluegrass Association. Randall was still performing primarily with his Peachtree Pickers along with appearances with Doodle and the Golden River Grass, the Marksmen Quartet and guest appearances with Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys.
