If you grew up in Michigan during the 70's or 80's, there's a good chance you saw this film about the history, geology, and geography of the Great Lakes region (and probably more than once). Heck, they might still be showing it. It's one of the best educational films ever made! This is only a short clip. I'd love to get my hands on the whole thing. I loved that film.

  • I remember this. I'm glad my mom remembers the title :D. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Well where's the rest of the video?

  • this won't let me post the link, but it can be found on a site called nfb.ca, under films and the title listed above!

My friend woke up today thinking about this old movie we watched in school, here in MI. A good friend of hers found it for us!! Enjoy!!

  • A few months ago I tracked down Blake James (the canoeist) He is retired and living in Canada. I phoned him and introduced myself as a long-time fan of this film. He is one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of talking to. Blake told me many interesting stories about the filming of this story and the rather interesting ways the producer arranged the amusing shots, going to a real glacier, having a guy throw shovelfulls of snow in his face, dropping the canoe from a helicopter, etc.

  • red green?

  • Growing up in Windsor, Ontario, I saw this film numerous times. My most memorable clip is of the canoeist drinking the foam. I am now a teacher and recommend the film.

  • Wow wel just watched it today at geography class grade 9 and it was awesome!!! My favorite part was when he accidentally drank the foam lol!

  • You can see the whole thing on the National Film Board of Canada's website. Just Google the title and you'll find it as the first or second search result.

  • So great seeing these old films. Ah I can hear the Projector sounding like someone talking while doing the motor boat sound.

  • Thanks this was one of my favorite educational films (and this clip was my favorite part). Yeah, I saw it a couple of times as a Michigan school student.

  • A few years back, my husband and I were hiking past a state park here in Michigan. When we past their outdoor amphitheater, this video was playing. Of course we stopped and watch it.
