This is a TAS of Game Boy's Donkey Kong, Mario is trying to save another woman... go figure? Moltov's first full game LP :D.
The aim of this is to entertain you but also beat it as fast as I can. Made using an emulater and massive slowdown was used and savestates. Shows this game taken to its limits.
Things to note:
1. I have made a few mistakes in this run probably about 4-5 that cost me a quarter of a second.
2. I seem like I do stuff that would make it slower but its actually making it faster, for instance im falling with a key, I knick an edge so I don't fall to fast to drop it.
3. I abuse glitches.. I jump up where they didn't want me too, if you fall far and like hurt yourself you get stunned but if you slide off a cliff again your fine :D and abuse glitches with the keys. I use the hand stand.. it is very glitchey therefore you can cheat with it a lot of times.
4. When I fight donkey kong and he throws enemies instead of barrels for some reason i couldent hit him til he threw another, I do not know what caused that.
5. I almost always use to backwerds jump. Where you push one direction then go back the other really fast like in mario 64.
6. The little animated scenes and the free lives every round I get are annoying because i get so many points. But hey I can't do anything about it.
7. I avoid getting all three of the womans items, it will send you into a mini game and take large amounts of time.
8. I saw no one has made a speed run of this so I decided to.
9. If you don't like it don't watch it plain and simple.

  • Why don't you throw up the key at 3:00 in level 1-3 instead of waiting way too long for the platform? Because I did that in 143 time units compared to your 141. In a TAS 145 could be possible.

    Also you never use the enhanced triple jump which moves Mario pretty fast horizontally, for example in 1-4, I can even 132 time units on real hardware using the triple jump. 2-5 is also a triple jump candidate.

    The levels I've seen so far have good strategies but there's definately room for improvement.

    Holy shit, my mind was blown. I just downloaded this for my 3DS and decided to check out a TAS. I like yours very much so far. This game really brings me back to my childhood.

  • Kind of late comment given that the last one was 7 months ago, but if you do redo this, you can cover stretches of land with greater speed by doing the upside down flip->big jump->2nd big jump although I feel you may already know that now.

    Mario + TAS = Acrobat Daredevil Mario!

  • Love the ladder trick at 8:10. Funny thing is, that's far from a glitch, since you have to do something similar later in the game.

  • Well done, but 0-3 and 0-4 could've been faster.

    Same for 1-5. You don't need to pick up the key twice. My record is 143 on the GB cart for that one, it's about average but not hard.

  • ACK! I lost this game so long ago, but it was one of my favorite games way back in the day. Oh, so very entertaining and a great game for the GB library :D. Also, this TAS run is pretty damn sweet so far.

  • did you guys ever play the exact port of the game for gba? It was the same graphics but wa sbetter because of the controls
