Astronomers are discovering new objects in our Solar System all the time- some of these objects are bigger than Pluto! Use Starry Night to see their orbits and decide if you think they are planets or not!

  • If Pluto is a planet, then Charon is too. and so is the entire Oort cloud for that matter.

  • Actually the major planets of the solar system do have a slightly tilted orbit with respect to each other, it is just much less. And their are probibly dosens of objects like these that are far out and have a strang orbit. I know not all planets have a moon but because pluto has 3 known moons (1 major one) and the fact that it is spherical and has a planet-like structure to it, meens that it should be a planet but norrowly.

  • To Mulkuth: Real names come with time, only after we can reliably predict where the object is in the sky, and the discoverer then has 10 years to come up with a name. "2003 UB313" was a preliminary designation, based on the date of discovery. Now that object is known as Eris (goddess of strife).

  • You can't imagine how badly I want this program!!! :(

  • why dont they give these planets names no i mean real names not numbers and yes they r planets because they are cercular and have a prmenent gravity pull, even if its a dwarf planet its still a planet and SHOULD be treated with as much interest as any other

  • My favorite saying regarding Pluto is, "If Pluto was

in our neighborhood of space, it would grow a tail".

Meaning its a low gravity ball of dirty ice, that

would slowly melt like a comet. Nice vid, thanks. :0)

  • what demoted means?if it mean it been not consider a planets i would be mad and i would scream shout out side and curse at the scientist astromitter who voted pluto not a planet no more and even to the oh wait i heard pluto not a planet no more so that must demoted means im doing then!cuz that how mad i am!

  • Sorry, I've been drinking. But no one listened to me at the summit, I'm not a 70 year old fart. I think "planet" is an out dated term.

  • The funny thing is that, by the new standards, Neptune is also not a planet. To be a planet you must be rounded by gravity, and large enough to eject any body that interferes with your orbit. Pluto interferes with Neptune. I think we need a new system of identification. The minor planets (three inner planets) are completely different from the major planets (gas giants). Galileo did not know what he was looking at, we should update our system.

  • My baby Pluto!!! I can't believe they demoted it. =*( Now what's going to happen to my astrological chart?? Pluto ruled my chart.
