This is the second part of my discussion of the Seven Liberal Arts: logic, rhetoric, grammar, arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. This segment delineates the Seven and focuses on the mathematical Quadrivium, particularly the study of music. In ancient and medieval education, music was considered the study of harmony and proportion: how there is balance in the universe.
