Sound of popular versions of this song s too clean. For me i like this version the most.

@hanifabidin90 I hate people saying Guthrie is better than (insert name here) he would be the first to say that everyone has their own style , influence and ability and also when i saw his clinic in coventry a few years back he said that Vai,s work on "Eat em and Smile" was something that inspired him hugely.

@ajaxrunner yes, Greg Howe!!!! Guthrie is more of Howe type of player than Vai....because guthrie musical influence is from jazz player and blues player like Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix......Vai is more rock and Zappa oriented

@112358miau whatever, Guthrie is the best

Thanks a lot for uploading this. It's pretty weird that he composed this tune so many years ago and when he was so young. Also great to see how much he's improved since then. The structure of the song is basically the same, but he's certainly learned to be more subtle (in a good way). Does anyone know when he actually started to gain major recognition for his playing?

yngwie is the 1 dislike

what's amazing about this is the quality of the musicianship as well as technique for a 22 year old, the melody is gorgeous

I can even hear quite some Jason Beckerish notions

@oscarsstuff Damn, I'm 22 and I suck. :)

@hanifabidin90 I agree with you, but tell me that this solo was not like a posible best solo from Vai lol
Thanks for this post! Amazing to a 17 year old version of this amazing song. Love how the first solo just kicks you in the nuts heheheh. This recording, while more primitive than his 2006 one, just shows to me how he has been a stunning player for some time. Lots of Vai isms in this one.
