Fear (1991) Lyrics :

don't give me answers for i would refuse
"yes" is a word for which i have no use
and i wasn't looking for heaven or hell
just someone to listen to stories i tell

now what is a blessing and what is a dream
caught between portraits and none's what it seems
and why is it people expect there's a change
when i feel i'm a part of something i can't see
i feel the same

now don't ask me questions or i will retreat
fame is a cancer and ego its seed
now i wasn't looking for heaven or hell
just someone to listen to stories i tell

do we ever wonder?
and do you ever care...

subtle salvation in poems we know
hiding our heads in a shadow of home
now i wasn't looking for wreaths or for bells
just someone to listen to stories i tell
stories i tell

  • There are really a lot of good bands that just don't get the air play their fans believe they deserve. Toad the wet sprocket has some incredible music but most people won't ever hear it on a radio.

  • Best.band.ever.

Quite simply one of their best songs.

  • AWESOME

  • One of my favorite albums from dare I say 20 years ago... Thanks for posting this :) Have you listened to Joseph Arthur (Come to Where I'm From) or Jeffrey Gaines? Both have been & still are popular with great lyrics & a similar sound to some of Toad the Wet Sprocket's songs.

  • Great songwriting.

  • heard "walk on the Ocean" as a sophomore in '92, been hooked on Toad ever since!!!!!!! :)

  • Best song I ever heard...

It's tension & release to the tee!

It's "songwriting" taking a listener on a journey and because of it's perfect. Perfect for the "school of rock", perfect music 101, and when reaching 800 level you return to. It's a listeners story, it's a thesis in a PHD of music. It's emotion and a place in time for everyone who hears, it's a story you told once. It's a note you struck, or a chord you found, a photo you took, or an exerience you had. It's about the listener..

  • @robertcblau I listen to this song atleast twice a day! It haunts me! I love it!

  • 759 views! My God, I pray your gods that people realize the power of this song!!!! The power of this song...... the power............

Amazing, should be taught in muic production 101 this song should! Emotion & feel are the key, pop artists have it down, yet no sells their crown.....

Do we ever wonder? Do you even care? Stories I tell.........

Is there more beneath this sea of music that does explode?!

F*^$# stories, this story, this song, is absolutely a lesson in setting a hook...

  • Totally under rated band.
