I live in Arizona and remember when GM came out with the last electric car - it was sold here in Arizona. The state of Arizona and the Federal government paid for charging stations at shopping malls and grocery stores. The electricity was free - I mean paid for by taxpayers. Then when GM pulled the EV1 - the charging stations where ripped out. We are expecting the same to happen again. At least Tesla, Toyota, Nissan and Honda have built Hybrid vehicles without dumping expense on everyone.
To obtain the high mileage - not only do you have to drive less than 40miles in a trip, but you have to plug in the vehicle when not in use - thus having the high price of electricity, and provide fuel - gasoline for the generator that charges the battery pack while driving. GM is omitting the fact that YOU will have to plug this car in to obtain the high mileage. Honestly I am surprised that TESLA has been blacklisted when it comes any government help. *past tax deductions for purchaser.
The last time I checked mid to upper thirties was not the same as forty to fifty thousand dollars. Also 230 M.P.G. is not the same as 30 M.P.G.. I do agree with you in the fact that the Focus is a good buy. Especially in the hybrid edition.
Just $40 - $50K, and it can be yours in 2010, no I mean now 2012 - 2014. Or you can just buy a Corrolla, Civic, or Focus for $15k today and get 30+ mpg's all day long. GM - Government Motors sure knows how to build a junker for a future clunker. And to think that they are asking the federal gov. to stipend each sale by nearly $25k to make it affordable when it hits the showroom floors.
GM should have just started re producing the EV 1 it has already been tested and proven that people want it.

The Volt is a plain boring car that has been dubbed "Grandma's electric car" by automobile analyts. It's going to be an epic failure.
