Globalism pushes everything else. Before globalism, defense was just that - the vast majority of our primary interests were within our borders. Thanks to globalism, our interests (i.e., the interests of the business leaders who tell our politicians what to do) are everywhere, and so we frequently have to fight "defensive" wars to protect our overseas interests from...whatever - anything that pisses off business leaders, like trade unions, price fluctuations, or unfavorable legislation.
