It's always heartbreaking but I've seen this British series called "Beetle Crisis" and the car was a mess but the results were really good, so hope it helps...

the rear valance (bottom bit) will need replacing funnily enough, do this by purchasing a new panel (i'd go with a heritage panel)

Oh.. I feel your pain, man... Have a 71 Mercedes more like swiss cheese than automobile. Bought for "easy resto" but the more I poke in it the more holes it gets, IT JUST NEVER ENDS..!! LOL. .. see my videos
