This is my first effort to try to learn some basics of water projection.

Water projection is, as far as I´ve figured, basically using water (spray/mist/waterfall) as a projection screen, and, with clever adjustments of water spray and even video mapping, possibly achieve a holographic-looking effect.

The video source for this test is the built-in webcam on my Macbook Pro, capturing my hand, lit from the front by a standard wide-beam flashlight. All video imagery is live, and no pre-rendering/processing was done this time. (Next time, I may get more three-dimensionality if I 3D-warp the video first.)

My conclusions so far:

1. It´s VERY cool, even with limited resources

2. A pretty bright projector is needed (the one used for this trial is 800 lumens, used at 6 meters distance)

3. Use in an area with lots of open space behind (or you´ll get light spill on the background, like I did with the trees)

4. The water spray should be as uniform as possible (mine came from a standard garden spray nozzle, a bit too basic and non-uniform for optimal effect).

Stay tuned for more fun!

And thanks to TBWA\OSLO for lending me the projector :)
