@pitpackinheat Bibi just turned 4 years old on Feb 25th, 2010. And, yes, she is an only child (as long as you don't count her "cousins" - 4 dogs and 2 cats.)

is it much work looking after these types of bird, had a budgie once which wasnt to difficult but i dont want to buy an african grey if i cant give it the attention it needs

To Meashisgod. The more time and attention you can give to an African Grey, the happier they will be. Bibi gets to spend nearly 14 hours every day and gets tons of love. We talk to her all the time. If you have any doubts about the time you can spend with your bird, you'll probably be better off with a less independent-minded bird that doesn't mind spending time inside its cage. A parrot like Bibi usually won't like to be locked in a cage. Bibi would throw a tantrum and yell, "I want out!"

How do you know what her body language is really saying? I have an african grey myself and would love to know how you understand that. Plse help..lol

@philosoisgrt: Well, we don't know with 100% certainty. But from reading bird forums and Dr. Irene Pepperberg's books and observing Bibi for 2 years, we are fairly confident that we know when she is frustrated vs. happy, or anxious vs. relaxed. If you haven't already, you might check out greyforums. net / forums / ...a lot of good info there. And a good place to ask questions.

@philosoisgrt .... wat age is the parrot -- gave him or her time and u wont be able to shut him or her up i have 1 me self lovey parrot she wakes me for work and flys from her cage in to the bed to me she only still a baby and i can leave her walk around the house she wont move and their very good whit kids

im after gettin told that bread is very bad for them im only after getin 1 a few weeks ago their 1 of the best parrots in the world they live up to 70years if their looked after well by leaven the parrot alone he or she will get loney and start pullin out their Feathers its a bad thing to happin they can die from been alone dont get 1 if u dont got the time for um its not fare

My parakeets love wheat bread, good for them cuz of the grain in it...they will only eat bread, seeds, and millet and some dried greens, they will not touch fresh fruit or veggies, don't know why. Cute bird.

People keep telling me that the bird is just mimicking what the owners say. They may be true in part, but the bird also has to recognize what the item is AND recall it's name.

Afican Greys are some of the smartest birds! ^_^
