Allegri - Miserere (best quality)

Miserere, by Italian composer Gregorio Allegri (1582-1652), is a setting of Psalm 51 composed during the reign of Pope Urban VIII, probably during the 1630s, for use in the Sistine Chapel during matins as part of the exclusive Tenebrae service on Wednesday and Friday of Holy Week. It was the last of twelve misereres composed and chanted at the service since 1514 and the most popular: at some point, it became forbidden to transcribe the music and it was only allowed to be performed at those particular services, adding to the mystery surrounding it. Writing it down or performing it elsewhere was punishable by excommunication.

There was a 13 year old boy that sung this twice, in each of the services as described in the description, and he went off to his chambers having heard the piece twice, and transcribed it; all the parts, all 15 minutes of the piece. It didn't even take him all night. That boy was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Miserere is good composition, when I listen I am transferred to Tibet in my spirit where all is silence, and the God is there as well. It reminds me on Himalayas.

I'm irreligious myself, but good music transcends the boundaries of faith. I feel that beautiful music like this is one of the good things which Christianity has passed down through the ages.
