North Korea Food - Pyongyang Onban 북한 음식 평양 온반 arirangtv

Onban's main ingredient is chicken, and it's a rice-in-soup dish. It's a dish we specialty for important guests or for special occasions.

Pyongyang Onban has a rather romantic origin. There was once a couple in Pyongyang castle who were set to marry each other, when the man got captured at the district office and was thrown in jail. One day a neighbor brought some food, leftover rice and some jijim(fried pancakes) to the lady. She wanted to get the food to her fiance suffering in jail, so she put the jijim on the rice, poured the soup in the rice bowl, then ran to her fiance to bring it to him, which is how Onban was made.

@ConfusedSponge North Koreans who get to live in Pyongyang do have enough food, although the rural areas starvation is really bad. Tourists also get better food than this. All the Western powers are the ones maintaining this crippling economic blockade while having the audacity to criticize the famine. 100% sure that the crocodile tears will be replaced by racism when any of the famine victims tries take refugee in Japan, USA, etc.
