  • Just finished reading the book-- highly recommend it. Brought tears to my eyes more than once to see how cruelly these children were treated by their families, by step-parents, by strangers. Used and abused. I was curious to see what the author looked like and found this interview.

  • Thanks for posting this. This compassionate man's insights are better than any so-called "realtiy show." What he lived WAS reality--a reality we don't hear enough about.

The comment that those in the system first experienced violence themselves (and the repeated it) is super important. I hope these juveniles understand what happened to them--so they can better grasp the origin of their behaviors--and not beat themselves up so much for being part of a cycle of violence..

  • hey, i'm a juvenile facility counselor, too....definitely heartbreaking to see kids arrested and caught up in the system on a daily basis....
