We were reading "Fiddler On The Roof" and our English Teacher said that if anyone made a video some how "related" to the book, we'd get extra credit. So we did, but as you can see, this video is pretty random and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I mean, why would an Asian be trying out for "Jewish Idol" and also, why would the judges be American and Ecuadorian? But people enjoyed it, so...I guess it doesn't matter.
@bobster0 I see what your saying man, its all good. I find it better to have good conversation and understand someone's opinion before attacking them just because of some criticism they might have had. Everyone's got an opinion and there definitely needs to be an equal balance of listening and sharing. But anyways...its been nice talking to you!

oy. I’m familiar w/ 2 Live Jews----the novelty wears thin very quickly, but guess I can’t blame you for thinking if it’s done by a couple of Jews it ought to be OK---you’re not alone. Personally, I love good, sharp satire much as anyone--what's demeaning is when folks too lazy to come up with their own songs or stories do dumb “parodies" “spoofing” Jews (or any topic) failing to say anything clever or original.
I do appreciate your mellow attitude in responding to my criticism.

@bobster0 Well we didn't do the voice-over/rap/song/thing, its by a band called "2 Live Jews," the title is "If I Were A Rich Man." We wanted to use the original song from the movie but couldn't find it, so we settled for this song, thinking the lyrics would be the same, just covered by a different band. But I guess since we're having this conversation, that's obviously not the case, sorry it offended you.

I went back & rewatched it, just to see if I overreacted, ‘cuz I’m really no fan of political correctness & telling everyone how to talk.
Unfortunately, no, I was right on the money. It’s the voiceover, the stupidly unfunny ‘rap’: both the words & the overdone yiddish accent are unfunny & offensive. It’s nice that no diss was intended, but that doesn’t make it OK; such stereotypes are inherently offensive, just as certain formerly acceptable portrayals of blacks are no longer OK.

@bobster0. That's not the case at all. The video is the result of some 9th graders trying to get extra credit for an English class. Sure, looking back now, I can agree that the video is pretty bad in terms of quality and other things. But it was never meant be be offensive to anyone. Its just a bunch of kids trying to raise their grade in a class. But it in no way makes fun of Asians or Jews at all, its just kind of funny than an Asian would try out for a Jewish based show. That's all.

Actually, I thought it was kind of offensive to Asians, too---because it seems to think---as do so many Hollywood movies---that anything rendered funny just by having some Asian kid clunking around clumsily. If I were Asian, I’d hate this, same as I would hate many of the moronic sitcoms aimed at African-Americans if I were one; it’s largely about self-respect, in addition to respect for others.
An Asian seriously lip-synching Tevye from ‘Fiddler’ might be amusing. This was not.

@bobster0 Why are you offended? Do you not like Asians?

This is totally, comprehensively unfunny.... and also highly offensive.
The problem is that so many morons think offensive = 'daring', artistic, witty & satirical.
Others are just that: juvenile imbeciles who guffaw at virtually anything.
The big question is, which category is your English teacher in?
