Yeah, I think the one thing that hasn't gotten worse with time is movie soundtracks. Shore is still doing great work, you have Giacchino, Clint Mansell, and Hans Zimmer doing epic stuff.
Arguably there is LESS music but also there are less great movies then in the 80's or 90's if anything that explains it.

@ruthampton The Lord of the Rings, ironically by Howard Shore himself, and the Greatest Score ever produced for a Film, was composed in 2001,2002 and 2003.
