Septiembre 2009 - el mes más lluvioso en Alicante de los últimos 132 años. Hasta 29 de septiembre de 2009, en el observatorio provincial de Alicante se habían acumulado 290,3 litros por metro cuadrado en once días de lluvia, que es la cantidad más alta registrada en un mes en el observatorio, que posee datos desde 1937.
La ciudad de Alicante ha registrado 115 litros por metro cuadrado en tan solo seis horas, lo que supone el mayor episodio de "gota fría" en la capital desde las inundaciones de 1997. Aquí ha habido que cortar cinco vías, por el estado del asfalto tanto en el norte como centro y sur de la provincia, según el Centro de Gestión del Tráfico de Valencia.
