I am old enough to recall using the West Pier in the 1960s. At that time both piers were popular and folk often visited both. I do hope the West Pier can somehow arise again. With careful planning it need not compete with the neighbour.
@2012Mrlego Nope build it like weston super mares new pier 2010 with what people want for 21st century past is the past be it a shame it could`nt been properly repaired in the 1970`s. or it could have been in use. be it with new attractions within the old buildings
Do you think they will ever rebuild it. And also if I ever become a millionaire I will be restoring every pier In britain and building at least 40 new ones complete with a theatre a pavilion classic arcade Victorian shelters and a old fashion sweet shop.
@MrJonathan058 There is a persistent rumor that people associated with the Brighton Pier (formally the Palace Pier) had something to do with it; the West Pier had won some money for renovation, and the owners of Brighton Pier didn't want any competition. As I said, just a rumour!
