  • This is very easy to listen to. I dont know what you guys are talking about

  • People, this is art. Not politics. Everybody is tight, grooving and it sounds very good. Enjoy it!

  • People are crazy. This is awesome. Gonzalo is incredible. Great arrangement, great playing, sweet groove....what do you people want, freekin' elevator music?

  • This is cool but check out Gonzalo with his usual-suspect cuban players - Philipe Cabrera, Julio Barreto, Horacio -el negro- Hernandez, etc, etc.

That's where his cuban-jazz really takes shape and is fully realized.

  • On the longest track from Rubalcaba's Avatar CD, the band stretches out for a 12-minute exploration of Yosvany Terry's composition "This Is it." The harmonic approach is mostly modal, with the solos taking wing over the throbbing vamp of bassist Matt Brewer, who periodically jumps into fast swing time but never settles into any rhythm long enough to let the soloists get complacent. The result is an agitated, jittery performance that throws off lots of sparks.

  • Beautiful stuff... this is what is all about you guys! if you like this check a band that I found not long ago from NYC... search for Afromantra Azul Infinito... the drummer is the composer and his music is really cool and the band is smoking! take care, Raul.

  • @Bebopopotamus ...... J Redman qtet (especially when he had Mehldau & Blade- absolutely phenomenal band), Brian Blade Fellowship, Jaleel Shaw, W Weiskopf, SF Jazz Collctv, Ralph Peterson, Jeremy Pelt, and from 50s/ 60s - Miles, Trane, Jazz Mssgers, Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones, Sam rivers, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy, Wayne Shorter, Herbie, Chick Corea, Monk......... am sure I've missed a lot out but this should give you some idea

  • @Bebopopotamus - I really dont find this tune 'hard to listen to' - just dont particularly enjoy it - no reflection on the obviously extremely high calibre musicians - the soloing doesnt move me much either - just not to my taste - dont find myself nodding my head or tapping my feet - I'd say the same thing about the recent/current wayne shorter qtet too - dont really understand why its such a big deal NOT to be into this ?!

    What DO I like ? - B Marsalis qtet, K Garrett qtet.......

  • @DonkeyMagnet99 What do you find so hard to listen t about these groups?

  • @diegohostettler - typically pompous reply from a self important 'musician' who cant understand why anyone would have different musical taste to his :) :) :) :)
