Two years ago, after completing his apprenticeship, Michael became a cook — a bicycle cook. Michael works at Bike Kitchen in Los Angeles, a nonprofit do-it-yourself bike shop that pairs volunteer 'cooks' with bikers in need of a tuneup, or who are hoping to learn how to fix their own bikes. On Sunday, Bike Kitchen, at Melrose and Heliotrope, was bustling as the cooks, who see themselves more as teachers than mechanics, helped bikers get back on the road.
