  • @erochow They didn't get a chance. I chickened out and hived them in one of the bait hives. I did the same for the 3rd swarm Sunday. The second was carried away by another beekeeper while I was out of State. If I get any more swarms, I'll have to use honey supers to house them!

  • Wow! That is something, Wayne. Now these are only a portion of your bees right? They don't all leave, do they?

  • @PaintedRavensong Right. Supposedly about half leave, some people say 1/3 to 2/3 of them. I haven't looked in hive they left, but there was definitely foraging going on afterward.

    I retrieved them after all. I took a cardboard box up the ladder and shook them in, then shook them into one of my bait hives. I put the box back in the tree, and lots more bees went into it. I don't know if I missed the queen the first time or what. Lots of bees in that swarm, though.
