If anyone disagrees send me a massage or simmly comment on what you believe. This is a growing issue in large schools. This is in no way a racial or ethnic issue. This is only a funding, parenting, and chooice issue. To say that you don't ahve a choice because of where you are living is absurd. If you feel as though your comunity is holding you down and making you act out in school you should take the time to speak with a school councelor. They make themselves available to discuss these sorts of issues. Everything you do in life is a choice you make. And those choices determine where you will end up. If you end up in jain it's because you made a choice to break the law.

  • I've had comments like that and i appologize for the bad editing (volume-wise), however your choice in musical preference is not something I'm here to discuss. PEACE!!

  • Could you please tell me where in the Bill of Rights it mentions school? Our children have the right to be safe and learn in school. These comments are ignorant. One speaks of a child pushing a teacher and accidently pushs the agent??? Are you fucking kidding? Poverty? If the child is poor wherer does he or she get a cell phone? Try responsibility for your actions, raising your children and not being their friends, and try a bit of self respect

  • Here is something that you should know: school is not a privilege, it is a right. This country has a legal obligation to educate every young person, no matter who they are or how they were raised. Students should not be pushed out of schools by overly harsh zero tolerance policies and police practices. Have you ever attended a school that had a precinct in it? This has a profound effect on a student's self-worth and their ability to learn.

  • Schools are under tremendous pressure (thanks to No Child Left Behind) to push students out that are low-performing; students who may effect their standardized test scores. Much of schools' funding is dependent on adequate scores. Some schools are over-crowded and don't have the resources to educate students, so they're pushed out through suspensions and arrests. Please learn the facts; you seem sincere and could be a great ally in the movement to protect these kids from being criminalized.

  • I know Anthropology105 is completely hitting the nail on the head and if the rest of you have no idea what you are talking about you really shouldnt make uneducated remarks. I went to an inner city high school and worked at a non-profit that helped film this documrntary and i know first hand what happens in these high schools. TEACHERS AND STAFF AT THESE SCHOOLS DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER THE DECISIONS REGARDING THEIR STUDENTS!!!!

  • by the police?

  • I agree =]

  • You are truly an ignorant.

  • The worst part about this situation is that it usually exists in the most historically oppressed communities. These students already feel like their voices don't matter. No one funds their schools or their parks...no one cares about them except for their crime rates. On top of this, in some places, like NYC, there are no existing legal outlets for students to voice their concerns.

  • ...Probably not...In an all-too-common chain of events, the SSA will take the item, the student will say something immature in return (kids will be kids), the SSA grabs the student by the arm, the student pushes away and accidentally pushes the agent...boom...arrested..because of a cell phone. Yes, the student has a choice, but should the alternative to giving up your cell phone be arrest? Yes, you should follow rules, but should also stand up when the rules are unfair.
